As scott28tt mentioned you can use automate this process via scripting with the PowerCLI in interaction with the VMware Tools (Heartbeat of VM). However, there is no default option for restoring a snapshot in front of a guest OS issue, because it can cause many challenges in different virtual machine problematic situations.
Re: restore snapshot
Issue with application when writable volume attached
I have a really strange issue with one of our applications Ansys. This is the scenario:
- Ansys virtualized into own application appstack works fine
- Users writable disk is created at login this volume works alongside the Ansys application appstack
- After maybe a week of use Ansys meshing process stops working
- If removing the users writable then the meshing works just fine
- If delete user writable and let it recreate issue goes away then reoccurs after some time
Fixes tried:
-Update new writable template
- Add UWP exclusions for Ansys as per here: VMware Knowledge Base
- Rebuilt appstack for Ansys
- Remove writable VMDK directly - interestingly this causes Ansys to break
It would appear something in the writable is interacting with Ansys but it's very difficult to pinpoint this since this isn't reproducable for all users.
Re: Application assignment
This temporary solution is working for us. Thanks for sharing.
So according to VMware it is now fixed in 20.6 (in a previous conversation they mentioned 20.5).
Lose all connectivity when adding 4th VMNIC to VM
This is a strange one...I've got a lab and am testing multi-nic Kubernetes hosts inside of VMware.
Long story short, my VM connectivity is fine if I have anything under 3 vmnics. The second I add a 4th vmnic -- regardless of what the VLAN/port-group mapping is, all vmnics lose connectivity.
I've individually tested each port-group/vlan and they all work individually.
I see the MAC address of all 4 vmnics show up on my switch, but the VMs cannot ping anything on those VLANs, nor can they be pinged. The linux interfaces associated with the vmnics show packets rx/tx. Have tried vmxnet3 and e1000.
Re: vm machine could not power on
As other experts said you can create a new VM and attach the existing VMDK (virtual disks) to this new one. So no need to worry about when or where you want to attach this new VM. You can add the VMDK files later to a new VM in a new vCenter/ESXi hosts (Just consider VM Hardware version compatibility) because you can detach/attach the virtual disks to the current or new VM whenever you want.
About the Secure Boot, it's one of the UEFI features. When you edit the *.vmx (config file) of VM, if it's not a BIOS you can find the EFI and change or remove the raw (I think it started like firmware="efi")
The disk 'Windows-cl1.vmdk' has one or more internal errors that cannot be fixed
Hi,
I am getting "VMDK has one or more internal errors that cannot be fixed" error my windows 7 virtual machine.
I have seen multiple discussion on this online but it appears each fix is specific.
I have attached the vmware.log file.
Can I get any help?
Re: Help Getting Two Linux VMs to Ping Each Other Across Host (Win10) Machine
Have you considered a corrupt file in the RHEL distro? Have you deleted and recreated the failed RHEL installation and see if that resolved it?
Re: Consolidation of snapshots takes a very long time
After five days is consolidation complete. :-) Uff...
Thank you all for your replies!

Re: Player 15.5.2 won't install on Fedora 32
Performed a download of Fedora 32: x86_64 DVD ISO recently and installed Fedora desktop with no challenges on VMware Workstation Player 15.
Check updates perhaps on host machine and VMware. Best of luck
Re: Network connectivity to freshly installed esxi 6.5 host!
This is what,I have found out in the specification as shown in the screenshot below:

Adding CPU to an exsiting VM.
Hey guys I have a question. I am a 6 month newbie to Vmware Administration. We are running an 8 node VxRail Cluster I am using 6.7 I enabled Hot Plug on all my VMs when I created them. Now I get daily alerts from 2 Host complaining about CPU usage being high. I go into "edit" and try to click on the drop down box but it doesn't allow me to add CPUs. I can see the "Enable CPU hot add" box is checked. Anyone know why I can not add CPUs?
Re: Accessing system files through vcenter
I don't think so ... From the vCenter perspective, you have control over the ESXi management options, not the troubleshooting details settings. For example you can start/stop services/daemons of ESXi hosts like the sshd, but there is no need to change their config files from the management view of the vCenter server. However, I think you can achieve your goal by running a good (and maybe complex ) PowerCLI script.
Re: Accessing system files through vcenter
What do you like to edit?
Re: The disk 'Windows-cl1.vmdk' has one or more internal errors that cannot be fixed
I have the result from running "dd count=155232256 if="Windows-cl1.vmdk" of="Metadata-cl1.bin" bs=1"
exact file size of Windows-cl1.vmdk is 155232256
But it is 60MB after compressing and I cannot attach it here.
Any help?
Re: Lose all connectivity when adding 4th VMNIC to VM
Moderator: Thread moved to the vSphere area, not an issue specific to any vCenter brand product.
Re: Can't share Mac printer with Windows in VMWare Fusion 11
I have the same problem after upgrading to fusion 11 from fusion 10. I can't seem to print on my brothers MFC Printer that's connected via wifi on my MacBook Pro 16.
I've installed VM tools several times and then tried clicking on the install "virtual printer". It does nothing when I click on install virtual printer. Any help is much appreciated as this has gotten way to frustrating.
thank you.

Re: VCSA Failed to start after Restart of the VCenter VM
Sorry, my bad. I somehow missed the Stopped and Running state in the services output, because it's usually the other way around. So that's definitely another issue.
