More than one year after your post and i'm facing the exact same problem. web GUI shows wrong WWN and same format as yours (looks like decimal instead of hex) but the esxcli shows the correct one.

were you able to solve the problem ?

Yes, I checked my  251's syslog, and there was this error prompt,.

But my 3.0's service boot unsuccessful error prompt don't know how to check

I found a note in our internal bug tracker suggesting that this might actually be an issue with the way Internet Explorer manages the display of large numbers in Javascript.  Does it work if you try another modern web browser – e.g. Firefox, Chrome, recent versions of Edge (based upon Chrome)?

Thank you for the quick reply, i am using chrome to access 9 esxi hosts in my environment, 8 of them display the correct WWN and only one shows the wrong one.

Interesting.  Just to be 100% clear, you're using the same web browser, and 8 hosts show exactly correct node and port WWNs, and one other host shows the WWN in the pseudo-decimal format... is that correct?  If so, is it possible for you to share some more data, specifically the actual node/port WWNs of that 9th host, and how they are displayed in the web UI?

(Just for the record, WWNs in the web UI is totally not my area of expertise... I'm just poking around in here and trying to be helpful. )

"Install VMware Tools..." Grayed Out

$

I'm running VMware Workstation 15 (Version: 15.5.2 build-15785246) to host Ubuntu Linux from a Windows 10 machine. I need to share a folder between Windows and Ubuntu. I created a folder in Windows and in the Virtual Machine Settings > Options > Shared Folders it says "enabled" and my Windows folder is listed. This looked like it was going to be easy.

Following directions from a website (https://theholmesoffice.com/how-to-share-folders-between-windows-and-ubuntu-using-vmware-player/ ) I entered this command in Linux: vmware-hgfsclient, but it didn't list my shared drive.

The next step was to enter this command: sudo vmware-config-tools.pl, but this produced an error that the command wasn't found.

The assumption was that VMware Tools isn't installed. Following other web searches, in the VMware Workstation startup dialog I selected my virtual machine instance, then Player > Manage, but "Install VMware Tools..." is grayed out.  This seems to confirm that VMware Tools isn't installed, but it gives me no options to do so.

I have spent hours going round-and-round the web looking for a solution. Every set of instructions from VMware says to simply select VM > Install VMware Tools when the guest OS starts (VMware Tools for Windows Guests). But I cannot find this option and it doesn't appear to apply to me.

I have downloaded VMware Tools (ISO) but I have no idea how to install it. Every guide I've found says to click on "Install VMware Tools" but all I see is "Reinstall VMware Tools" but it is grayed out. Very frustrating.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Joe

Since I install esxi6.7 without RAID driver, I need to inject the driver into esxi6.7.iso. The problems I encounter are as follows:

PS E:\t1> $DeployNoSignatureCheck=$true

PS E:\t1> .\ESXi-Customizer-PS-v2.6.0.ps1 -v67 -vft -pkgDir E:\t1\drivers

Highly recommended to add same type of CPU family, Number of CPU sockets, memory size, disk size for adding new nodes in vSAN cluster for better performance. However, there is no rule to prevent for adding new nodes with higher quantity.

vCenter 7 Remote Access

Hey All, hoping one of you has run into a similar issue as this.

I've recently built a home lab and I've been intending to base it on VMware with remote access via vCenter. Built it all and its working perfect from internal to my network however when I try to access it from the internet I get no response after opening the link to the vSphere web client.

I'm using DDNS which is the exact FQDN of my vCenter server and forwarding the external port through 443 on my router. When the FQDN was not the same (internal and external) I was getting the error:
"[400] An error occurred while sending an authentication request to the vCenter Single Sign-On server - An error occurred when processing metadata during vCenter Single Sign-On setup: the service provider validation failed. Verify that the server URL is correct and is in FQDN format, or that the hostname is a trusted service provider alias."

When the FQDN matched internal and external I am getting a page timeout after clicking the HTML5 web client link.

I'm assuming that I'm getting to the server just fine with my DDNS as I hit the landing page but I'm not sure what happens after that unfortunately. Anyone have an idea? I've been at this for ages XD
